Toyota has officially announced it’s first battery-electric SUV for the U.S. market. Then how about the new 2022 Subaru all-electric SUV?
The new Subaru “Evoltis” might look like the picture below when it arrives. It is still unsure if Subaru will use the name “Evoltis” for the new BEV, the Japanese automaker has a new nameplate patent.
Subaru’s new BEV is coming into focus with Toyota’s announcement for its first battery-electric SUV. It is most likely to ride on Toyota’s e-TNGA platform, which is a derivative of the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA).
The new design of 2022 Subaru BEV
Subaru will incorporate it to support its all-wheel-drive vehicle. According to the Japanese automaker, the new design of the battery-electric SUV could come in the front-drive configuration. Besides, the vice president for product planning of Subaru, Kazuhiro Abe said that the new BEV could use a front-wheel-drive structure. The structure comes along with one motor and an all-wheel-drive variant with two motors.
The CEO of Subaru Corporation, Tomomi Nakamura has recently told Automotive News some updates on the new BEV. That is the new Subaru all-electric SUV will be a compliance car for the recent zero-emission vehicle mandate and also the California emissions.
Subaru has announced that they will have an “electrified” lineup by the mid-2030s and will rely on hybrid technology. The new plan will include its all-electric model, hybrids and plug-in hybrids.
Subaru is relying on Toyota to launch its first-ever battery-electric car. Moreover, Subaru will introduce an all-new model in 2022 with limited availability while Toyota plans to launch a “portfolio of battery-electric products,”.
The U.S. market is prioritized over other global markets
Due to 66% of Subaru’s car sales in the U.S., Subaru Corporation will introduce the new BEV to the U.S. market first.
Under Toyota’s lead, Subaru is able to convert its overall fleet to all-electric technology in a cautious and slow approach. They are not expecting the increasing of all-electric demand in the U.S. before the mid-2030s. Abe believes that the EV demand will expand maybe from the late ’30s or ’40s.
The size of the new 2022 Subaru BEV model will be similar to the Subaru Forester compact SUV.
Subaru will keep the new design of BEV distinct even though it’s collaborated with Toyota. Nakamura says that collaborating with Toyota who has lots of knowledge of electrified vehicles gives them access to new technology. Thus, they can absorb Toyota’s knowledge and introduce an all-electric SUV and hybrid faster.
