In the midst of the pandemic, holiday blockbusters in the cinema and family vacations may not be a Christmas favourite this year.

But that doesn’t mean this Yuletide season you can’t bring festive joy to your house.

Here’s our list of five free online shows for the Virtual Christmas:

1.Dick Whittington – A Pantomime For 2020

Date: Until Dec 27

Without a pantomime, Christmas will not be complete. Well known in Britain, on December 15 at London’s National Theatre, Dick Whittington by Jude Christian and Cariad Lloyd was filmed live on stage.

Catch this funny and heartfelt revised classic tale about Dick, London Mayor, who must save Christmas after a giant whale swallows Santa Clause entirely with his sidekick Cat and a host of fairytale favourites!

2.Looking A Lot Like Christmas – A Donmar Festive Concert

Date: Until Jan 5, 2021

This hour-long concert, filmed in the beautiful setting of St Paul’s Church in the heart of Covent Garden, London, features musical numbers, sketches and seasonal poetry.

With performances by Imelda Staunton, Jim Carter, Minnie Driver, Giles Terera, Rosalie Craig, Sharon Rose, and many more, make this a star-studded Christmas.

3.A Christmas Carol: An Audio Play

Date: Until Dec 31

What is Christmas without the classic A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens?

In light of the pandemic, Goodman Theatre, a Chicago-based theatre company, is rolling out a special audio version of this heartwarming tale of the discovery of kindness, compassion and salvation by Ebenezer Scrooge (Larry Yando).

Pull up your blanket, make a cup of hot chocolate, and listen to this classic Christmas storey.

4.La Cenerentola

Date: Until Jan 4, 2021

Catch this opera version by the Italian composer Gioachino Rossini of the children’s classic Cinderella.

Furthermore, La Cenerentola by the British-based opera house Glyndebourne, directed by Peter Hall, was recorded in the summer of 2005.

Gather your family for a magical, emotional and comic journey this Christmas in an all too familiar fairytale.

5.Mother Christmas

This one is for kids. Or maybe the inner kid of yours. In addition, Mother Christmas is followed by this special online short by Little Angel Theatre, London’s only purpose-built puppet theatre, as she outdoes Amazon by masterminding global gift deliveries.
