The number of positive Covid-19 cases in 1 Utama Shopping Complex cluster (Utama cluster) has risen to 105. The Petaling District Office stated that as of this morning.
The office posted information on its official Facebook page that so far, 79 security guards, 18 cleaners and 8 shopping center tenant staff have tested positive for the virus.
“The eight mall tenant staff involved one from 1 C&C Cookies, one from Daiso and six from Teh Tarik Place.”
It said: “The Covid-19 positive cases from this cluster are foreigners, except for workers at Daiso.”
Last night, Johary Anuar, chairman of the Petaling District Disaster Management Committee, said that the cluster recorded 63 positive cases, of which 16 shopping center workers, 44 security guards and 3 tourists were infected.
However, the 1 Utama shopping center management disputed these figures. Saying that so far, according to their records, there have been only 21 positive cases.
It said that this was based on a two-day Covid-19 test conducted on 6,000 shopping mall workers starting on October 11.
The conclusion test obtained yesterday has successfully determined that 20 tenant employees and 1 mall manager were positive for Covid-19.
It said that the additional 44 security personnel identified by Johary were not part of its large-scale test.
The company said that the 44 security guards came from a third-party service provider. That Covid-19 has contracted through the dormitory rather than in the mall.
Since October 11, one Utama has been closed after several cases were discovered among the staff of the shopping center.
At the same time, the nearby Tesco Extra Mutiara Damansara posted on its Facebook page at 8pm that the intern of the large supermarket tested positive for COVID-19.
Tesco said it will clean and disinfect its premises and will reopen at 10 am tomorrow.
