(US election) Georgia, United States of America: The state of Georgia officially declares president-elect Joe Biden as the US presidential election winner. According to a press release from Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on Monday, Joe Biden has won the state, even after the requested recounts by the Trump campaign.
“We have now counted legally cast ballots three times, and the results remain unchanged,” Mr Raffensperger said at a news conference from Atlanta on Monday.
Safe harbour day
Georgia’s announcement comes before the deadline for Congress to present its official seal of approval to results. These results are already certified by each state.
The date, referred to as Safe Harbor Day, effectively makes it much harder for members of congress to later challenge the results submitted by each state.’
Although the Trump campaign’s lawyer Sidney Powell has filed 2 lawsuits on the 25th of November, they have lost in plenty of cases trying to overturn the election results in Trump’s favour.
U.S. District Judge Linda Parker in Detroit and U.S. District Judge Timothy Batten rules that the lawsuits were too late and lacks legal standings to proceed.
“The people have spoken,” Parker wrote, citing the election results.
