About Studio Ghibli
The legend of animation, Hayao Miyazaki is the founder of Studio Ghibli. Studio Ghibli has produced some of the most commercially successful and famous animated films ever made. To mention particularly, Miyazaki’s 2001 film Spirited Away remains the highest-grossing film in Japanese history and always occupy ranking among the most anticipated films of the 21st century so far.
Many of Ghibli’s charm stems from a commitment to hand-drawn 2D animation, but it seems like the prestigious studio is about to kick off into a different animation realm with its newly introduced feature.
By seeing from the film’s CGI format, Gorō Miyazaki’s way of carving an animation seems to be different from his father. During last summer, he actually explained the way he selects young animators over Studio Ghibli’s more seasoned hand-drawn animators. This has led him to fully commit to his own CGI direction.
However, online reactions to the trailer are not as good as expected so far, with many fans yearning for the hand-drawn speciality that minted classics like Spirited Away. Ghibli fans from the US and Canada should expect it themselves next year. As for North American fans, distributor GKIDS mentioned that it hopes for a theatrical release in early 2021.
