In the 2019 Chicago Auto Show, Kia said that the design elements from the HabaNiro would make it onto a reality model. The concept will most likely be implemented in the next-generation Kia Niro. Naturally, the production version will most likely come along with some crazier styling elements like the butterfly doors. As we can see, the new spy photos of the 2022 Niro seems to prove us right.
The first spotted next-generation Niro prototype is still heavily covered. However, in the early spy shots, we can still see that the new Niro will receive some bold styling elements previewed by the HabaNiro. It is still unsure whether Kia will keep the name, HabaHiro although the production Niro will certainly surpass its original image.
The next-gen Niro is most likely to continue offering a plug-in hybrid version, a hybrid drivetrain and an all-electric variant. Moreover, the design is identical to the current model, which will largely enhance the range of BEVs available by 2025.
Concept design of the new Niro
The Niro will maintain its five-door layout with a more exaggerate design on the C-pillar. The concept design of the new Niro looks sportier and its model will have a longer wheelbase than the one it replaces. This is to provide wider passenger space and a larger room for a larger battery on the electric model.
Furthermore, Kia has decided not to use the company’s signature Tiger Nose grille in the HabaNiro Concept. The latest prototype cannot be clearly seen and it seems that the headlights are still provisional as to not give away their final design.
At the rear of the car, the production Niro incorporated boomerang-shaped taillights that appeared on the concept. However, the wheels vary from the concept, where they look sporty for an efficiency-focused vehicle.
