The Selangor International Business Summit 2020 to go virtual this year
Invest Selangor Berhad, the organizer of the SIBS 2020 launched the summit this year online from Oct 14 to 17. In fact, the transition to a virtual platform is due to the enforced conditional movement control order (CMCO) in the Klang Valley effective Oct 14 to October 27. The organizer said the move was to ensure the health and safety of exhibitors, participants and members of the public.
Objectives of SIBS 2020
ASEAN is home to some of the world’s largest corporations with a highly developed infrastructure and advanced commercial ecosystem. On the other hand, Selangor offers a high-tech and business-friendly environment alongside many other competitive advantages. The annual event aims to attract foreign and domestic investment to Selangor with the aspiration of making Selangor a digitally advanced state and a global trading hub in Malaysia. Apart from that, Virtual SIBS 2020 also offers new marketing channels for businesses to explore, provides an informative and engaging virtual experience that allows all participants to explore the many opportunities prepared originally on-site.
The Selangor International Business Summit in 2020 and previous years
The theme for this year’s international business summit is Virtual Selangor International Business Summit 2020: Bringing businesses together, beyond borders.
The summit was first organized in 2015. Since then SIBS has grown significantly. Over the years, the summit has welcomed almost 100,000 visitors from more than 50 countries. It also recorded a total of RM1.143 billion (US$276.6 billion) in transaction value. For instance, the 2019 SIBS hosted a record 787 booths, attracting more than 34,000 visitors and RM447.3 million in transactions, making it the most successful year since the event’s inception. Selangor International Business Summit’s (SIBS) 2020 is expected to record approximately RM60 million in transaction value this year.
This year, SIBS has successfully invited 284 exhibitors from 12 countries to its virtual summit. The virtual SIBS 2020 will include virtual expositions, conferences and a webinar series. Moreover, the four-day virtual summit will offer online networking and business matching opportunities.
Three new components in the SIBS 2020
The virtual SIBS 2020 will have three new components: the Selangor International Expo, Selangor ASEAN Business Conference and the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention. The Selangor International Expo 2020 (SIE2020) will focus on all aspects of food industry trends. Apart from that, the Selangor ASEAN Business Conference (SABC) has a new feature of monthly webinar series. Last but not least, Smart City & Digital Economy Convention (SDEC) includes the Malaysia Top E-Commerce Merchant Awards. The award seeks to reward the most successful and innovative local e-merchants.
Besides, the virtual expo will be powered by an exclusive online business matching platform, allowing for trade and visitors and buyers to engage with top F&B brands virtually. Therefore, participants can stream the summit on its website from Oct 14 until October 17.
