Ministry of Education (MOE) announced all school closures for Klang district in Selangor. Three other districts in Sabah namely Sandakan, Papar and Tuaran will also face school closures. It is announced the schools in the red zone districts will close from October 8 until October 23.
The ministry has further confirmed to close all schools that are in red zones. The closure will come into effect to 142 schools in Klang district and 242 schools in the three Sabah districts. In other words, that will be a total of 384 schools altogether.
How about students who stay at hostels?
Affected schools will include primary schools and secondary schools, vocational colleges and even private schools. The ministry added that parents or guardian should pick up students from hostels to return home.
Following that, the ministry said students who did not wish to return home could stay at school hostels. Hostel warden would take care of the remaining students who did not wish to return home. Schools will serve food for students during the school closure period, according to the ministry.
Academic activities will continue throughout the period under the supervision of respective schools’ principals and headmasters. Teachers and students are compulsory to carry out teaching and learning activities at home.
SPM trial examination matters
However, the closures will affect schools that will hold SPM trial examination for the Form Five students. The ministry advised to reschedule a mock examination in the near future for students.
Four districts, Klang, Sandakan, Papar and Tuaran will now be under a 14-day conditional movement control order (CMCO) beginning October 9.
Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the authorities will monitor the nationwide situation. He added National Security and the Ministry of Health (MOH) will always provide up-to-date news about school closures. Also, the news will include school closures for other districts if there any.
