Quick U-turn in higher education

Following yesterday recorded Covid-19 cases in a day, the Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad make an announcement. The minister barred all new students and senior from face-to-face registration. A surge in Covid-19 cases in Malaysia since the 1st of October has made all Malaysians go panic.

University of Science Malaysia (USM)

My university is the earliest public university to receive new students for the new academic session. However, my juniors are asked to return home for safety sake. They are given 3 choices. First, return home directly even they are on the journey to USM. Second, go back home after done registration. Third, register and stay in the hostel. USM encouraged the students to choose the first and second choice.

As a senior who will start the new academic session next week, a ‘quick U-turn’ is announced. All the teaching and learning activities go online until further notice.

Better manage student affairs

The university should provide better management for the students who already arrived at the campus. Besides that, The government is ready to help the universities to make sure the students stay safe.

Moreover, the ministry apologized for the inconvenience. She hopes to curb the Covid-19 chain infection thoroughly as well.

Inter-district travel in Sabah will be banned

Sabah is the state with the most number of cases and cluster in Malaysia. Starting from 3rd of October, authorities have placed four districts in the east coast of Sabah. Stricter lockdown puts on Lahad Datu, Tawau, Kunak, and Semporna to avoid the virus continuing spreading. Many businesses have shut down and residents are staying at home for safety. The police keep guarding the state’s roads to ensure compliance.

Clusters spread from Sabah to other states

Kedah and Selangor are also having a quick rise in the cases. After the election of Sabah, many politicians are detected with Covid-19. Some travellers from Sabah tested positive for Covid-19 after back to their hometown. One of the men in Bagan Dato gets infected after back from Sabah.

Few politicians tested positive

Until now, few politicians have been tested positive for Covid-19. Many of them get infections after returning from the Sabah campaign. One of the Melaka assemblymen is tested negative at the airport. However, the authorities told him they made a horrible mistake on the next day.

The latest news report that a deputy minister tested positive after returning from Sabah. However, the Senior Minister (Security) does not verify this news.

Environment and Water Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Ahmad Masrizal Mohamad has been admitted to the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

No MCO implemented

The Senior Minister (Security), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says there is no nationwide lockdown for now. Despite the spike in Covid-19 cases, these horrible disease is still under control in Malaysia. The Prime Minister assured the public that the situation is still managed well.

As of today

317 new active cases reported today. Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the cases may still keep on rising for the coming days. He also urges the public to stay at home if no important stuff to do outside. However, he states that the condition still under control at the conference just now. The government does not consider to implement strict movement control around the whole country temporarily. They only implement on the targeted area as of now.
