Johnny Depp announced his step down
Regarding to this news, Depp has announced in his Instagram saying he will be leaving the franchise:
Depp wants to make a few short statements regarding the recent events. Firstly, he would like to thank everybody who has given him loyalty and support. Many of his fans’ messages of concern and care moved and humbled him, particularly during the past few days of hearing testimony. Secondly, he wishes to notify everyone that Warner Bros. has asked him to resign for his role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts. He respected and agreed to that request. Lastly, he also wishes to allege the surreal judgement of the court in the UK will not affect his determination to reveal the truth. He intends to prove that the allegations against him are false by planning to appeal. He said that his life and career will not be destined by this moment in time.
Since the past few months, Depp has been trying to cast in Fantastic Beast 3 as he’s charged to court in the UK. This is due to a libel trial against The Sun over a statement which labelled Johnny Depp as “wife-beater”. On November 2 hearing, he lost the case, but he still plans on appealing again.
