This year, Fortnite kicked off it’s annual “Fortnitemares” event by turning players into killer ghosts. The event takes place until November 3rd where players still have some time to get their ghost on. Fortnite is also celebrating Halloween night by featuring an in-game virtual concert from reggaeton star, J Balvin.
In the Fortnitemares mode, the Fortnite island is filled with spooky touches. A foreboding fog may hang over the island and houses were decorated with Halloween vibes. There is even a witch’s hut surrounded by rideable brooms. However, the most exciting twist come last when players die.
In this time Halloween event, the introduction of killer ghosts totally evolves the dynamics of a usual Fortnite match. Any defeated player could return as a ghost to get their revenge. Imagine the one last surviving human have to keep alert for menacing ghost hordes.
It provokes player’s anxiousness as they never know if they are able to survive against all of the revengeful ghosts. However, when the player inevitably dies, they could be in love to channel their spookiest ghost self into terrorizing the surviving humans.
Abilities of ghosts
After player untimely demise, they will return to the island as ghosts to hunt and troll the left surviving humans. Being a ghost in Fortnitemares can consume health items, materials, guns and even the Marvel-themed superpower in the map. Consuming these supplies will prevent humans from using these against the ghost.
If the ghost stands still, its purple body will disappear so that it can hide in plain sight (though it can still be found out from the glowing eyes). Instead of killing opponents by using guns, ghosts rely on their sharp claws to defeat opponents at close range.
However, the most important skill is that they have the ability to scan for nearby human players. If it successfully scans somebody, a little red indicator of the human’s location will appear on the map. Moreover, that scan alerts other ghosts in the player’s vicinity to the presence of surviving humans. That means other ghosts can join the player to hunt for the leftover surviving humans.
The previous Fortnitemares
The previous Fortnite Halloween events added zombies and granted the chance for players to take down an ultimate giant monster. Hence, the idea of introducing killer ghosts this time is actually fresh and thrilling.
