Ellen DeGeneres, the host of the famous TV show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, announced last week that she contracted the virus.
She then took to her Instagram to share a health update along with her fans.
She posted a video from her home, saying she feels “100%” despite the diagnosis.
“I feel really good,” the 62-year-old television host said. However, she feigned surprise that she faced an unexpected symptom of the illness: Back pain.
“One thing that they don’t tell you is that you get, somehow, excruciating back pain,” she added. “Didn’t know that was a symptom but I talked to some other people…Who knew? How come?”
Though the U.S. Centers for Disease Control doesn’t list back pain specifically as a COVID-19 symptom, “muscle or body aches” is one in all the disease’s symptoms. Other telltale signs of coronavirus are fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, headache, new loss of taste or smell, inflammatory disease, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting and diarrhoea.
The CDC has listed emergency warning signs that indicate patients should head to the ER. Furthermore, including trouble breathing, persistent pain or pressure within the chest, new confusion, inability to wake or not blink and bluish lips or face.
The 62-year-old DeGeneres revealed her diagnosis on Dec 10, saying at the time that she was “feeling fine right now”. She also encouraged her followers to “stay healthy and safe”.
Till January, the production of her daytime chat show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, will be suspended.
A tumultuous year for Ellen
DeGeneres has faced a tumultuous 2020 even without having to handle the coronavirus. In July, her show faced accusations of a hostile work environment and DeGeneres herself was accused of being mean-spirited, leading fellow celebrities to come back to her defence. After internal investigations, three top producers left the show and DeGeneres vowed to form changes and begin a “new chapter”.
