The new crown pneumonia epidemic in the United Kingdom continues to worsen. In the Northumbria University of Newcastle, 770 students have been diagnosed with Coronavirus. So that, making it the largest group of university infections in the UK to date. Of the 770 confirmed cases, only 78 had symptoms related to COVID-19.
Nearly a few weeks after the start of the fall semester, the new crown virus has swept over British campuses, affecting at least 50 universities. The students need to isolate themselves in dormitories shortly.
The spokesperson said that the relevant confirmed students, roommates and close contacts have been self-isolated. The school urges the above-mentioned undiagnosed persons to undergo virus testing as soon as possible if they develop symptoms.
Roommates were diagnosed last week said by a female student. Besides that, at least 20 units in the dormitory where she lives are under isolation.
Only local health officials expressed doubts about the number of confirmed diagnoses. This is because the number of confirmed cases of 770 cases is more than that of the entire Newcastle area. Moreover, it is doubtful whether the school has mistakenly included the relevant self-isolated persons in the confirmed number.
All confirmed students have been self-quarantined pointed out by Reuters. As for the government’s instructions, their close contacts and roommates must be quarantined for 14 days in accordance.
Students who violated the terms of self-isolation “will be fined by the police and disciplinary by the university, which may include fines, final warnings or expulsion.” said by the school in a statement.
The university also added that affected students will receive food packs and other necessities, as well as additional academic support. If they miss any face-to-face teaching during the isolation period will not be adversely affected.
A student told Business Insider that they had not received any communications from the school about the epidemic.
After many universities in the UK resumed classes in early September, more than 50 universities have so far confirmed cases.
